En la colina del pequeño pueblo de Hasville, vive una familia demasiado grande y misteriosa para el gusto de todos los habitantes del pueblo, los Villen.
El señor y la señora Villen son dos adultos mayores, quienes deciden que adoptar a huérfanos cuyos padres murieron por diferentes motivos, es una buena causa para arreglar la reputación que tienen. Así que terminan adoptando a trece niños y poniéndoles condiciones:
La primera condición es:
"Nada de relaciones afectuosas entre ustedes, pues solo son hermanos"
La segunda condición es:
"No convivan demasiado con las personas de Hasville"
Y la tercera condición, la que según todos consideran más curiosa es:
"No se hacen preguntas del pasado"
Con forme los trece niños crecen, su curiosidad por descubrir los misterios que rodean al apellido Villen crece con ellos y el seguir las condiciones que les pusieron, cada vez se vuelven más difíciles de obedecer
Porque ¿Cuál es el verdadero motivo por el que los adoptaron? ¿Por qué el vivir con los Villen conlleva condiciones? ¿A que se refieren con que los Villen están todos dementes? Y la más importante, la que los huérfanos se preguntaron desde que lo vieron, ¿Quién es en verdad el señor Villen?
