The story focuses on the conflict between Mexican Americans and Texas Rangers. It follows Tobias's struggle with what happened to his family. He joined the revolution to find some sort of justice or revenge. Initially he is so pent up with anger that all he wants to do is fight. Ira, a Texas Ranger, struggles with staying true to only doing good and helping those in need. He struggles with another Texas Ranger named William who only wants to do harm and stoke the hatred between the two groups. Ira and Tobias must each do their part to try to bring peace and stop the endless slaughtering of Mexicans and Texans.
