'Hui jerked awake with a strangled scream spilling through his lips. He clamped a hand over his mouth as soon as he was aware he that was making noise, but a panicked whimper still slipped through. He scrambled to sit up, pushing at the blankets covering him, suffocating him, and tried to remember how to breathe.' I felt the bed dip as he sat down on the other side but I focused solely on my task until I was done. "This is a pillow barrier. Meaning, you don't breach this side of the pillows." I instructed, my voice firm. "What if I don't want anything between us?" Phoenix said in a husky voice, and I risked a glance. Bad choice. When it was dark, he whispered," Can't I admire what is mine?" I had no answer, and turned on my side. He sighed. Despite taking two naps today, I was out cold the minute my head hit my pillow. I could only hope that in the morning, the pillow barrier was still there. ***** Adira has a secret, one she would do anything to protect.
