Paris, France, five years ago. An attempted stabbing at local orphanage leaves a girl in hospital. She is recurperating slowly, no longer in critical condition.

Paris, France, present day. Seventeen-year-old girl found dead at late-night party. No apparent link to orphanage stabbing five years ago. It was not the same girl.

Rose and Emma are orphans, with something inside them they don't know about, or dare think about. With everyday seemingly the same, they wonder what their lives could have been if things were different. Things are about to get very different; when Valentine decides he wants the world to pay for everything that has been done to him. They meet Amelios, the centre of Valentine's rage; after they find out what lurks in the shadows of their minds. But is all this change for the better?

Amid the Embers may look like your typical post-apocalyptic story. It's not. Yes, it starts with the Noxborne Virus. Yes, the world falls apart, fast. But this isn't about scavenging for canned beans or dodging zombies in alleyways. This is about what comes after, the slow, intimate rot of systems, memories, and mercy. It begins with Lily, a CNA in a Chicago hospital, witnessing the final moments of Patient Zero. From there, the story fractures into multiple points of view: survivors, manipulators, believers, and the broken children caught in between. A rising cult twists faith into control. Trauma rewrites love, loyalty, and identity. Each chapter ends with a bonus scene, hidden thoughts and memories, alternate angles, haunted echoes that refuse to stay buried. This trilogy blends psychological horror with emotional realism. Every laugh hides a wound. Every wound starts a story. Amid the Embers is not about saving the world. It's about surviving the memory of it and what it turns you into. ─────────────── **⚠️ Trigger Warning: ⚠️ ** This book contains graphic depictions of: -Child abuse (emotional, physical, and implied sexual exploitation) -Physical torture -Sexual assault -Mentions of child brides - Domestic violence and coercive control -Religious extremism and cult-like behavior -Graphic psychological horror -Substance abuse -Miscarriages -Homophobia and internalized shame -Death and grief -Mentions of suicidal ideation (non-graphic) -Gaslighting and manipulation Reader discretion is strongly advised. ─────────────────
