The oldest one, a teenage boy, has odd circle tattoos all over his hands. The two girls have on clothes that are far too big for them. And they have been captured by beastmen. Why would beastmen be interested in this odd trio? And do they deserve to be held prisoner? Kaiyennah takes a risk and decides to rescue the children. After a harrowing escape, the three children follow Kaiyennah back to her village, where she and her panther Vespeera meet the children's odd familiars. They each have mythical creatures! And all three of the children have mysterious magical powers. After attempting and failing to communicate with the children, the wise woman of Kaiyennah's village tells her of a prophecy: she must take her new friends to the country of Fulgaria to find a Windtalker, who can make amulets that will allow them to understand each other. Joined by their animal companions, the four children set out across the perilous landscape of Ngaherahe, pursued by the relentless beastmen.
