She's friends with him and he knows she likes him. She starts to feel like there no point in trying anymore because she knows deep down it will never happen.

Full warning, this book is much shorter than I intend on making the spin-offs. I was planning on writing book two as the first in the series but found myself needing more of a prequel to all three other books, and so I chose to write something from their high school years. Bonus points for giving Daniel a love interest that was more than just a name.
