Falling Stars: Wings of Fire

Nearly a century after the sixth WOF book, trouble seems to have disappeared. Unfortunately, it doesn't last.
In the middle of the desert, StarCatcher wakes up with no memory of her past. She is found by a wanted gang searching for payment. After being saved by the village guard, she can't help but go in search of the answer to her question.
Who am I?

"Well... can I call you StarCatcher?" River suggested. My head jerked up in surprise, thinking he was messing with me, but he looked sincere.
"What?" I stammered.
"Um -" he suddenly looked at the ground, abashed. "Well - you said you didn't have a - I mean, you don't have to - it was just a suggestion - I didn't mean -"
I shook my head, hit with the onslaught of half-finished sentences, and said abruptly, "Stop." He fell silent with his mouth open, then snapped it shut; I thought his green scales were picking up shades of pink and violet. My face burned as I realized my crude manner. I hurriedly explained before he could speak; "I mean - you don't need to apologize. I like it."
