Sam, who quickly realized that Cadie wasn't coming, walked back around and opened the door. "You coming?"

She shook her head. "I can't."

"What do you mean?"

She swallowed. "Well... I'm kinda... I'm a fugitive."

Sam shrugged. "So were we, for a while. We're legally dead now, though."

"Yeah well, a documentary aired about us last week. Bad Apples: A Story of Parricide," she said though gritted teeth. "It's not the only one out there, either."

"Parricide?"

Cadie swallowed the lump in her throat. "That's what they call it when you murder your parents," she said quietly, holding back angry tears.

Sam was quiet, unsure of what to say.

"We're infamous. Almost as much as the Menendez brothers." She said all of this with her gaze fixed on the back of the seat in front of her.

Avery wrapped an arm around my waist to catch me before I could get out the door. He pushed me up against the door, trapping me between his body and the door. "What's wrong?" I asked innocently. His face hovered over mine, much closer than I was used to. His gaze didn't leave mine as he spoke. "It would have been different if I had told him from the start. You wanted me to lie for you. You started this. If we tell him what really happened, he would be pissed at me for lying to him." "Stormie, you got a phone call!" Mason yelled up the stairs. The closeness between Avery and me started to make my legs feel like Jell-O, and I couldn't make sense of it. Our breathing became heavier. His eyes trapped mine. "Answer him," Avery murmured. "Uh," I stammered. I cleared my throat. "Be down in a minute!" My voice came out higher than usual. My gaze still couldn't escape Avery's. My heart raced wildly as his chest rose and fell against mine. Avery's gaze flickered to my lips. What's happening? My gaze fell to his mouth, which was moving closer to mine. "You know damn well what I mean." "I don't know what you're talking about." I pretend to ignore him, flipping some pages in my book. "Come on. I have all these assignments waiting. Aren't you supposed to teach me tonight?" "It depends on what you want me to teach." He smirks, his voice sounding even more dangerous. ***** I thought that my brother was the most popular guy in school, but as soon as I step into my university life, I realize how wrong I was.
