I wasn't looking for anyone. Definitely not some half-dead guy bleeding out in the woods.
But hey, life's been full of surprises lately. Like how I graduated with no plans, no future, and no one in my corner (certainly not my parents)- unless you count my best friend Kayla and a lot of quiet resentment.
Then there was him. Croagin. Not quite human, not quite explainable, and apparently really into giving away dangerous secrets to girls who make bad choices in the forest.
Now I'm somewhere that's not home, wrapped up in something ancient and messy and magical, with creatures that don't like me and two guys who might destroy each other - or me - if I'm not careful.
All I ever wanted was to be seen. Turns out someone finally did.

Magic, monsters, mayhem ... and high school. What could go wrong? Everything! I'm a freak, but I've got the God-given sense to know to keep it a secret that I can use magic to lose some things and to find other things. As magic goes, it totally sucks, especially since I can't control it. I couldn't use it to find my brother and save him from a serial killer. For most of my life, I was basically invisible. I could've jumped off a building yelling, "Hey guys, I'm going to jump!" and the world would've just... kept scrolling. I despise socializing with a passion. It's a fact: I'm terrible at it. Like the useless person I am with everything else except for academics. It makes me wonder if there was ever such a time when I didn't suck at it so badly. Oh yeah, the time when I haven't met my good old friend, anxiety.
