When Annidiea is fifteen, she is adopted (she's an orphan) by an FBI agent looking to keep his cover. What better way to do this than adopt a teenage girl?

She is very tough, but fear is a constant no matter who you are. In the story, fear is ruling her; the fear that she's failing Drew. If she, her family, and her neighbors were not in this setting, she'd be perfectly happy. But she can't be happy now, not with everything that's going on.Complete

"Take the small one, she isn't human." Another officer came over and started to take her from my arms. She let go in shock but I grabbed her arm and I tugged back but I didn't want to hurt her. "No!"
