This tale is from ancient times, a time after the end of the era of Ram and before the arrival of Krishna. It was the age between the end of Treta Yuga and beginning of Dwapar Yuga.
In human years it was a giant transition period and was full of chaos. As celestial beings restricted meddling with humankind, both Daitya's and Devata's sustained heavy losses in these years of wars in their attempts to control the ways of the children of Manu.
Treta Yuga had shown to all other beings what destructive capabilities the human kind posses and sooner or later they will overpower other races who don't realize the winds of change.

Now, an amalgam of these fears and expectations from the humankind brought about a period of change in human history that ultimately lead Humans into Dwapar Yuga with such destructive capabilities and divine boons that gave a path to the most destructive and bloody battles in the history of mankind.
This is the tale of that period which gave Humans these powers.
