The wind whipped against my bare arms as I made my way across the field. I inhaled softly, slowly sinking to the ground as I looked at my surroundings. In a matter of seconds I was flat against the burnt grass, curling up into myself. There was no escape. "Shae?" My eyes flutter closed as I sat in the darkness, gripping to the ground for safety. I couldn't let him see me. Not this way. "Shayla????" I could tell he was getting closer. A light shone through the darkness and burnt leaves rustled beneath his heels. As the light his the back of my person I opened my eyes softly. I knew I had been spotted. "Shae?.." he whispered, kneeling down to me, moving the hair from my face. "What happened to you?" More than anything, I wanted to let him know I was fine. But I couldn't tell him. I couldn't tell anyone.
