He stepped out of the car, his legs aching after being still for so long. He lifted his bag from the floor of the car, draping it over his shoulder. He had been gone far too long he thought.
He looked around, a thick blanket of snow covered the land. The same pine smell drifted into his nose, reminding him of the memories this place held.
He looked towards the large house, even more memories filled his head. The house that held his past, his present and his future, stood tall and proud before him. The wood old but yet seemingly new to the eye.
The door to the house opened revealing his mate, she ran towards him smiling. He smiled happily placing his bag down. His heart fell as she ran past him and into the arms of his brother behind him.
A woman walked up to him, hugging him instead. She looked up at him and smiled, he smiled back at the woman, his wife. He heard a squeal, his head snapping towards the sound. His world stopped.
His brother was on one knee, holding a ring.. Proposing to his mate.. He silently begged her to say no, but his pleas went unnoticed as she excitedly said yes jumping on the man.
They kissed and his heart felt empty. The hole that had formed there from long ago grew bigger. Regrets filling his mind.
