Shiro Kurokawa is the white sheep in a herd of black sheep. You see Shiro was the product of an affair. Shiro was named lovingly by his mother after his biological father's beautiful blonde hair. His name literally meant White of the Black River family. Shiro Kurokawa was a complete contradiction. Shiro's mother was divorced from her husband when her infidelity came into the light. Now every time she looked at Shiro, she found herself angry, sad, and full of regret, he became a reminder of all her mistakes. He became a mistake. Sadly enough, when Shiro turned five, Shiro's mother could no longer stand these events that she herself had set into action, she resorted to the only thing that could bring her comfort, death. She hung herself in her small bedroom. Shiro had been sleeping, and when he woke his mother was dead. Shiro was bound for foster care, but his mother's old husband, Hideki Kurokawa, intervened in the process, out of love for the woman he had married even five years after their divorce, and adopted Shiro. Shiro was treated well, and was never subjected to any abuse by his new father; however, he always knew that other than his adoptive father his new family despised what he meant and were embarrassed by him, no matter how hard he tried to please them. Because of this, Shiro came to the decision that he would only ever do things he liked. When he turned fifteen he banished any trace of black and white from his closet, and began his life again, in colors. He was transferred to a new school, and he, because of recent events, was going to try to focus on the bright side of things. He decided to live life in the brightest colors.
