The horrors of ghoul life has escalated in America when they are thrown into torture camps similar to concentration camps of the Holocaust. A young ghoul manages to escape a camp and leaves everything she had known behind. She caught word about the life of ghouls in Japan from an escaped ghoul.

It wasn't the best life, but it was better than being brutally tortured in ways unimaginable every day. She became a nurse and a secret ghoul within the walls of a local psychiatric hospital known for its experminents on ghouls.

It's hard to mend her heart and let time heal her past when there is a war rising in the air between humans and ghouls. She is losing faith on a peaceful life, but hopes every day for one. She hears news about the Aogiri Tree and meets a mysterious boy from the organization.

For the first time in a while, she wonders if this is her chance at salvation or the return of her own personal hell.
