Gabriel Moya is an expert at being bland. No one pays him any mind--or recognizes he exists at all for that matter. Until he burns one of his classmates with his bare hands.

Suddenly, he's getting much more attention than he's ever wanted. Not from the other students though; from those he never knew could even exist. A strange woman shows up at his house under the guise of transferring him to a different foster home, but that's far from the truth.

Instead, he's transported halfway across the country in the blink of an eye and is introduced to a whole new world: a tribe of magical beings living at the center of a massive forest. They call themselves Mages, are the secret protectors of the world, and are offering Gabriel a chance to train to master a power lying dormant within him and join their ranks.
