Vanessa is a selectively mute girl who's lived through many traumas, from the death of her mother, to withstanding the abuse of her father driven to alcoholism by his grief, the the latest occurance that has changed her entire life, and made her question her perception of reality.

When she met Hale, a boy who looked over her mutism, and truly took an interest in being her friend, and helping her, her life was made far more complex. She trusted him, and while he helped her trough the hardest point in her life, he may have made the next stage of her life even darker.

Written as a letter from Vanessa to Hale, this story recounts Vanessa's life while Hale was in it, and explains how he landed her in a treatment program for those who are mentally ill.

They both have secrets they hide, things they both relate to and have gone through. That may be how Adrian catches onto Olivia fairly quickly. But, she tries her hardest to keep him away, even though they both know they're drawn to each other. Will she ever let him in or not? Of course she will, that's how these stories go.

"I stared at her beautiful caramel skin, her glass skin. Even her freckles were smooth and soft. I'm not sure if other people would classify her as beautiful, but her large blueish gray eyes, the ones that held such intelligent and innocence and serenity, that is was impossible for me not to be held prisoner by them. Her cheekbones weren't high and defined, and her nose was a little too small to be considered perfect to other guys. However, her glorious features kept me captivated. Her lips weren't as I imagined them to be. I expected her to come with makeup on, maybe a little lip gloss, but they were coated with lip balm. I could smell it from here, the sweet scent of mango.
