"She's my mate, no one touches her." Maaz coughed the words out and Safira realised it was because of the blood that was pouring out of his stomach.
She was his what.
"Great," the man she had shot disclaimed. "You just had to go and find your mate now of all times. We'll be back some other time to finish what we started."
And then they were off. Walking away as though she was the one who had complicated their mission.
As soon as they were gone, Safira rushed to help the Alpha.
"Are you okay?" She asked, gently grabbing his arm to help him sit down. He ignored her and grabbed her own arm forcing her to look into his eyes. They had gone from a burning gold to an intimidating hazel and she tried not to look away as he searched them to find what he was looking for.
"You're human?" He sounded disappointed and Safira ignored him. Also choosing to ignore how velvety his voice was, deep but incredibly smooth and calming. She had no idea what was happening but was overwhelmed with the need to fix this mission. But not without helping him first.
