La douleur exquise (n.) the heart-wrenching pain of wanting the affection of someone unattainable. Else Dare is a diagnosed schizophrenic 18 year old with a love of animals, comedy, poetry, and not much more. She spends her days achieving mediocre grades, helping animals in need, and trying to separate herself from her overbearing mother. She sees and hears things that aren't there, leaving her with not many friends. She doesn't have a love life. She doesn't want one. "Love is a fickle thing." But what happens when she starts being followed and approached by a young man she's never met or seen before? Nice, handsome, romantic. A friendship, maybe? Love...possibly? Something about Jack has Else stumped. She can't get him off her mind.
