Confused and curious, Carina tries to figure out why everyone is stuck in a gigantic maze without any idea as to why. Carina soon befriends a strong leader, a sassy runner, and a blonde boy with a limp as she tries to create a life in the Glade.
But everything changes as Thomas enters the Glade. The Grievers are stinging more and more people each day. The doors no longer close. And a half unconscious girl enter's the Glade screaming Carina's name. As everything comes crumbling down around them, Newt and Carina seek solstice in each other as a hope to survive their new reality.

I broke and asked him about her, "Is it really history? I mean... ever since I noticed you two together now I can't stop noticing it. She walks into a room and I feel like I have to remind you to breathe." He pulled a chair over and straddling the back of it. "You know when you're running through the maze and you're almost finished, you can see the glade and you have all this built up adrenaline? You're sore, tired, sweaty but you still feel the last bit of energy to get you home? That's what I feel whenever I'm around her. It's like every nerve in my body wants to wrap around her but I also teetering on the verge danger that would come with that." She never obeyed Alby's rules, she liked getting herself into trouble. Alby put up with her antics as she was the only girl the creators had ever sent up, and unless they did it again, Alby had to ensure she was safe, which was difficult when the girl enjoyed going against him and running out into the maze during her free time. Minho, the keeper of the runners, often had to chase after her on his days off, which coincidentally were the only days that the Angelica ran into the maze. That didn't mean he enjoyed chasing after the girl, Alby's orders though.
