Last Summer. It was one of the best times in my life. I was happy for once. The days were long and hazy. Nights weren't spent alone, rather with a group of friends. I felt free, something I haven't had a lot of experience with. All my worries were washed away with the tide and happiness seemed to drift in with the current, towards the shore.

Sitting by myself, my feet stuck in the cool water of the little stream, I tried, for the ten millionth time, to reason out why I had to have these problems. I never believed it would end like this. I was just watching Netflix when the power went out, then before I knew it everyone was screaming, then the school began to shake and fell to the ground. Only three kids in my entire school were spared, four if you count me. I found a group of people heading to the east coast for a boat trip to a supposed safe haven in India. They died of disease days later. I found their bodies by the river. But I guess this is my life now, surviving with a scared boy, a pair of twins and trying to make it to the next day. In a world where giant beasts rise from the ground only when it storms, havoc erupts. Many died trying to fight off the toad-like beasts. But even though some died, some didn't. A big group of survivors made refuge in an abandoned high school and called it "The Oasis". Everything was fine for a few years until a long foreseen nightmare came to life. There was no more food, and a huge rain filled cloud was on its way to shield the sun. Hope was almost lost, until a group of four brave individuals decided to leave the safety of The Oasis and bring the food that they need back home.
