The survival of the Elemental

Life was not always this way. Not everyone was segregated all the time. I wouldn't know exactly how it used to be. My grandmother would tell me little stories about the world before. She can't remember it all but she says it all started world war...I can't remember the number. Grams said that the war started when the resources for living were running low. Things called Americans were the most greedy. They wanted everything including Australia. Gram says that is why half of it went missing. The war ended when most of the population dwindled down. Many were left injured and radiation didn't help those who were left in the aftermath. The aftermath took a long time to dwindle down into the segregations we are today. First there were regular humans who had a resistance to the radiation. But it wasn't long before they discovered the mutants. Those were the animals they had once known turned into dangerous beasts. Then there were us. We had no idea that we were mutated yet. The humans wanted death and destruction upon anything considered a mutant due to the radiation. But one of us used our magic abilities and it was eventually found out that we were living among the humans. We all were once humans but we mutated to have these powers. Humans did not really like us or trust us but there was nothing we could do. But back then when we were first discovered we were pure elementals. No mixed breeds, only pure magic ability. As time went on the planet we loved started to change. Radiation also changed how certain elements react. There were things frozen underwater that were never supposed to reanimate that did. Dragons for example now rule the skies. They are more peaceful than you would expect. Well that was after the rest of what was known as Australia completely disappeared. But around that time love had started to prevail over our differences. Humans would get together with elementals, elementals would get together with other elementals, and mixed elementals would be born.
