It's been a year since terrorists used Magic to destroy the Empire State Building. A year since the world discovered Magicians exist. A year since we had to go into hiding.

These days, anyone revealed as a Magician is beaten, imprisoned, or killed. 

After starting a new life with my uncle, my only goal is to avoid getting discovered. I don't plan on joining the fight for Magician equality. Just like I don't plan on saving a mysterious stranger from my old life. And I certainly don't plan on winding up in the middle of another Magical terrorist plot.

Unfortunately, nobody seems to care about my plans. And the more I try to live an ordinary life, the more I seem to find myself in extraordinary danger.

Too afraid to give in, too afraid that if I reach for the phone, I'll call. I'll call to make it right. I want to make it right, because this man affects me more than I ever thought he would. But it isn't right. I can't give myself false hope. "Please just talk to me, let me explain. It's not you.....it's me. I'm the asshole. You don't deserve this, you didn't. ..."
