"We need to tell you something," said father.
"We have been dreading telling you this but now we have no other option, all our money has been stolen, and we could lose the house and end up in a workhouse," explained mother, tears still streaming down her face.
"What do you need to tell me," I ask, afeared for what they will say.
"We are going to have to lie and say you are a year older than you actually are," father began.
"What for?" I interrupted, though I had already realised.
"Servant work," replied father.
Elizabeth Brown was just a normal victorian girl, poor as can be.
