Artemis doesn't remember anything about her past, only her name. She had one job only, and it was to go to the addresses sent by text through her burner phone, save the person from harm and leave for the next place assigned. She doesn't know who sends the texts, nor who sends the hits to the victims. That was how she went by her day until she started to get hunted down, having the unfortunate luck of being in New York City at the same time as Captain America and Black Widow.
