Society. It can be a great yet terrible thing. The Rich run it, the Poor enslaved by it. Many are discriminated by it for various reasons. Those on top are powerful and will do anything to stay powerful. They will even kill for it.

Amongst the victims of discrimination are supernaturally enabled humans.

A.K.A Supers.

~~~
I felt terror rise in me and, as another hand pulled at the knotted fabric of the blindfold at the back of my head, I closed my eyes to stop it from brushing them. Instead, it rubbed against my eyelids and lashes before it fell to the floor.
Opening my eyes, I came face-to-face with the super that held me captive.
Or what little there was to see of him.
There was a dim light being given off by a candle somewhere nearby. More filtered in from somewhere else in the room, but not much. Combine the bad lighting with the mask he was wearing, there wasn't much to see.
Only the lower half of his face was on show, the skin tan and smooth. A strong jaw, pink lips, flared nostrils and the bottom parts of his cheeks were all I was getting off this guy. The holes where his eyes watched me taking him in were filled with shadow, so I couldn't see what colour they were. A black mask covered the rest of his face, his hair was styled and dark, blending in with the shadows around us.
"Stop pretending to be an idiot, idiot." Ouch. It burns. "You're starting to sound like a dear old friend of mine," she adds, her tone implying that her "friend" isn't so much of a "friend" as a mortal enemy who she probably also dragged into an alley on multiple occasions. Because she must be a fan of alley-dragging. Theater major. "I bet that friend was super amazing," I retort anyway. "She'd have to be to put up with you." Oh! Snap! I grin like an idiot at my own joke, realize how uncool that is, and then quickly rearrange my face into a frown. "I'm sorry. I don't quite understand. You're supposed to be a superhero, so why are you threatening a fellow superhero? Isn't that kind of against our code or whatever?" "You don't have a code. Superheroes who follow codes don't drop off information about people's allegedly dead sons at their doorsteps and then run." Well, can't say she doesn't have a point there. -- After being framed for the horrific murder of Birchwood City's most revered superhero's six year-old son, Maya Waterman abandons her super-villain persona and finds herself lost without any sense of identity and purpose. Being hunted by a vengeful super is hard enough, but after her employer fires her and she's evicted from her apartment, Maya begins to become something she had prayed she would never become again- helpless. She needs nothing less than a miracle to save herself, and much to her surprise, she gets just that-- even if it entails her trying her hand at becoming a good guy for once.
-undergoing minor editing- In Book One of the NLTG series, Regina Hayden stumbles her way into Bruce Wayne's car and a new life as his protege, Jet Starling. However, after an incident at a LexCorp warehouse, Jet Starling is transformed into Pyrrha, member of the Light and enemy of the Justice League and the Team. In her first months as Pyrrha, she battles with her ever-mounting rage over Batman's betrayal, the Light who is constantly pushing her to her ethical limits, and her growing attraction to the sociopathic Lex Luthor. Surrounded by lies, Pyrrha finds herself needing to find who she truly is inside. Homicidal-prone villain or used and confused hero? --- "I don't believe you! I don't believe any of this! They wouldn't do this to me! They wouldn't abandon me!" I stumbled to the bed to hold on to something, anything. In the tussle with the two brutes, equipment was strewn throughout the room, including a metallic bed pan. In the vague reflective surface, I saw two red lights staring back at me. Frantically, I scavenged the room for a mirror but only found a glass cupboard door and saw my face clearly. No. Not my face. Her face. It was my features but none of my color. The skin was smooth. Too smooth and white. Colorless, in fact. Except for when my veins began pumping brighter and brighter the more panicked I became. My once grey eyes were now a burning red. My short hair, long. This wasn't my reflection. This was a monster. A demon. I fell to my knees and held my face in my hands as fire began erratically bursting from my skin, only terrifying me more. I felt a hand gently pull my hand from my face and held it tight. I looked up to see Luthor, the surprise calming my sporadic flames. His face was genuinely sad even as he winced from my heat. "Darling, don't fall apart," he whispered. "What am I?" I pleaded, still on the brink of tears. "A god among men." --- Spotify playlist link in profile
