Like most teenage girls, Jess Kiesler listens to music all day, everyday. Every time you see her, she's going to have her ear buds in and either bobbing her head or dancing to the music. The only thing that separates her from most other teens is that she listens to one kind of music and one kind only: country. Being born and raised in southern Tennessee, you can't really expect anything else from a full blooded southern country girl. She never really finds any interest in anyone that enjoys any other type. She just tolerates them.
When city boy James McCalvin is going to the same university as Jess, she's instantly annoyed by him, and not just because he blares his rap music so loud it nearly takes your hearing. According to James, he hates country music. He says it's "too boring" and "not enough to get you pumped." Every time they're near each other, sarcasm is the only language they know. But even though neither of them will admit it, their differences intrigue them both.
And sometimes they just need to learn; forget about the song type or if it's "cool" or not, just enjoy the sound. Just listen.
