When she offers to become his ally in uncovering the truth about his father's legacy, he can't walk away even though she comes with her own set of loyalties that put her in the heart of his estranged family. For eight years he's had no trouble keeping people at a distance, so why do all his instincts now cry out to keep her close?

This is an AU that has no island and no Green Arrow but does follow much of the canon as laid out in the show except without Oliver having come home to save his city.  Also, while Laurel gets mentioned, she is not in this story.All Rights Reserved

Laurel had to step up because she knew her sister was hurting and one day Laurel saved her sister from killing herself. Laurel promises herself that she will do everything she can to keep Lydia happy. After 5 years, Oliver Queen is back, but is not the same Oliver that Lydia once knew. Lydia's feelings for Oliver return, but then someone close to her catches feelings for her and she made the choice of choosing him, her best friend Tommy over Oliver and she hopes to not get hurt again. Following Lydia's journey with balancing work, friends, a new relationship and working with a somewhat new hero in town that has Lydia curious as to who the masked vigilante is.
