Sylvia Davenport has live a comfortable life in a stable home with a criminal investigator for a father and a forensic pathologist as a mother. She's never known trouble and has always been on the good side of town.
Leonardo D'Aramitz has struggled since birth and was raised by members of a neighborhood gang. He's never known luxury or what a 'real' family is like. He's only ever had himself, his younger two siblings, and the gang.
When Sylvia and Leo meet on a hot summer night, an unlikely romance blossoms underneath the moon. As opposite as the two of them are in positions and attitude, Leo sees no need to share the major fact that he is affiliated with a notorious gang. Their relationship progresses in a positive direction until one night while the two are on a date and Leo's car is tailed and they are caught in a drive-by.
Although they both survive with minimal injuries, Sylvia is shaken up and can't seem to wrap her head around the fact that Leo is in a gang - she's devastated. She is fearful for the safety of Leo and those she dearly loves, despite all the reassurance from Leo.
Sylvia has to wonder if the feelings she has for Leo are enough to justify putting her and her family and friends in danger.
