Katherine Rohmer is a shape-shifter. Because she is 16, she must join a Shifting School to be able to control her shifting ability. On her first day, on the bus, a couple of students find out that she can shift into a dragon, a species thought to be extinct for hundreds of years. Kathy has to join a secret part of the school for "Mythical Shifters" as they are called. She learns tons of things about shifters and meets people her age that can shift into unicorns, Pheonixes, hipocampus, chimeras, enfields, and more. But humans find out about shifters when one careless student gets too drunk at a block party. Many are captured and it is up to the Mythical Shifters to save them all.
