"Oh, please. It isn't that hard." I scoffed, rolling my eyes at her.

She narrowed her eyes at me, dropping her hand.

"Nova, please. You've sat on the sidelines for the entirety of high school. You don't know the first thing about popularity." Monica retorted.

"I know it's not hard." I replied easily, observing her tan complexion.

"Prove it, then." She smirked, tapping the table with perfectly manicured fingernails.

"Prove what?" I quirked an eyebrow.

"Prove that popularity isn't hard. Become popular over senior year and maintain that popularity until we graduate." She smirked, raising her hand to shake.

I paused, eyeing her hand while weighing the pros and cons in my head. I knew there was no point to it, though. Monica set a challenge, and I never back down from a challenge.

"Would you like to dance?" the boy asks me. I stare deep into his blue eyes, but I can't figure out who he is. He's tall with dark hair and the brightest blue eyes I've ever seen. I know everyone at this school, but with his features hidden behind his mask I can't tell who he is. "Sure, I would love to." Did I just say that? I agreed to dance with a random boy who I don't know. He takes my hand and leads me to the dance floor. We dance for a few songs and then he asks me, "Would you like to take a walk? At the end of the path I notice a little fountain surrounded by candles. I wonder if he set this up. We walk over to the fountain and we sit down on the edge.
