Avaline Baker is a young woman on a camping trip with friends when she decides to go into a museum that will change her life forever. Somehow transported into the future, Ava finds herself at the barrel tip of Nazi German soldier. Transported to their camp as prisoner, Ava is lost and confused as to what, where, and who she is with...the how part is the most antagonizing. Shortly after being saved by two American men, Ava discovers she's been placed at the center of World War Two. Surrounded by warfare and American men who have strict mindsets about women in the the 1940's, the 21-year-old feels like she has no hope of surviving. To even have a chance, Ava has to prove that just because she's a woman, doesn't mean she isn't capable of fighting to survive like the rest of them. Ava finds herself stuck in 1944, with "strange" technology called a cell phone, no way of charging it, and no way of getting home. In the midst of a gruesome and horrifying war, she finds herself questioning more than just sanity of the time period, but even her own. Hopefully, with careful and calculating steps, Ava will survive the blistering cold winters, the first-hand experience of a war, and developing a difficult bond with the men of 1st Platoon. --•--•--•-- This is a work of fan-fiction, which means I don't own practically anything. The starting point for this story is the unlawful invasion of Iraq. With the exception of France, all western nations were guilty. As an arts student at the University of Sydney in the 1980's, majoring in European history, I wrote many essays for my anthropology course on revolution focusing on key events and arguments for frenzied regurgitation in tutorials. Kidnapping, a common practice in Napoleonic France and recently by the Bush Administration during the Iraq War. In the 21st century we know it as 'rendition'. For lightness of touch I refer to rendition as 'prevenue'. It is a French word meaning preventative arrest and the centrepiece of the catastrophe of this comedic drama. For my hero to have the impact that I intended, it was necessary to build the story slowly. As such, when Fortune finally arrives, first on page 5, then page 45 as the old hag Asia, she hits with the force of a stealth bomber. Fortune is one speck in the vastness of the entire universe, yet a continual and elevated presence for the remaining story. Perhaps paradoxically, in the light of wartime chaos, not to mention the restraints placed on women in the Middle East, would always be there, somehow. Fortune, is an extraordinary and daring middle aged woman, truly in her element delivering a message to Commander Dallas Stone, a self-entitled Christian zealot. The government, along with the War Department and direction from General Eisenhower decide this is a secret, covert operation that the public will be shielded from, to see how integrating women into war will work. Each of the 250 women come with their own ambitions of what they want from war and why they signed up in the first place to be apart of this program. They become split into each of the 5 branches with leverage from each of the branch commanders, and split into groups of 2, 3, or 4 women and are placed into their different respective branches. The enlisted men of each branch, well, they do not know exactly how to approach a woman who, at the moment, has more military training and experience by the time they get placed into their positions. Hazel Parker, Catherine McCown and Elizabeth Elliot are placed into the 101st Airborne, the first 3 women to be apart of the Airborne. A few other women head off to the 82nd. These 3 women become part of the 506th and are put under 2nd Battalion, in Easy Company.
