[Squall Leonhart/Reader] Sailors, and pirates alike, hold close the myths of those that dwell in the oceans they sail. For for every story, there is a warning. You were no better in your own belief. Up until recently, your entire life had been at sea or shore. You hadn't expected an owed favor and gold to call you back to your past. You much less expected the company of a man ready to risk life, limb, and fin for his fabled kind. Now, you walk a thin line between legend and reality. Your capture and their freedom. Greed and salvation. Others warn of soul-stealing beings lurking underwater but, perhaps, the real monsters are those that walk the land. [Reboot of (Into the Sea) from my old account]

A queen is nearing the end of her 20s and has yet to marry and to make a proper heir to her throne. Instead, she has her lady consorts to play with. Her council will not leave her alone. She will not cave under pressure. A mermaid is pressured to shift into a human form and 'capture' a human man with her siren song to procreate and continue on her species. She is of the bloodline of a long-gone sea goddess. She also is the only one of her kind that can feel and fall in love. 14 years in the past, the queen and the mermaid met. The latter saving the former from a drowning at sea. Over a course of one summer, they became the best of friends. They separate because of their fates. Then happenstance has them reuniting again. Are they good friends from the past? Or something deeper and romantic?
