Wait For Me

She was on her knees and busy wiping the glass cabinet and arranging the various makeup kits on display when she noticed a pair of legs with black pants standing on the other side. She stood up, dusted her knees and skirt and put on her everyday greeting smile for the customer. She was surprised to see Roman, checking out the rotating display of keychains. He did not look at her when he spoke.

"Today is my last day at work," he said. She nodded.

"I heard," she replied. "It's a good thing that you finally agreed with your parents to move with them abroad."

He finally turned his head and looked at her. Eyes full of sadness, longing, hope and some admiration? She flinched when she felt him touch her hand which was rested on top of the glass cabinet holding a rug.

"Leigh.. wait for me..." he said. She tried to open her mouth to speak but can't find the words to say. "I'll come back for you. I promise."

Dumbfounded by what Roman said, Leigh just stood there still as she watched Roman slowly walked away from her and disappeared into the crowd of the busy mall.

He is determined to reach his dreams but he wanted to start from scratch, to learn everything. So he accepted a job offer from a friend to work as a bagger boy in the grocery store of a prominent mall from the nearby town.
