"Once upon a time, twelve animal gods ruled over our world. They were called the Numen. How come you've never seen or heard of them before, you ask? Well....some powerful people didn't like the idea of being ruled by some unknown deities, so they prepared a ritual to bring them under their control. The idea was, to constrict their powers, they would be sealed away in twelve chosen human vessels. The ritual, of course, didn't went they way they thought it would. Over time the vessels became....different. Something was wrong with them."
"What was it mommy? What was wrong with them?"
"Nobody knows for sure, my dear. But there is one thing I do know. One day the Numen will come back to their world. And they won't be happy."
