Beta's are the humans put into cages to be attacked by aliens so the scientists can determine the alien's strengths and weaknesses. Aliza will do anything to save the twins, they're all she has left. She'll do whatever it takes to rescue the twins, escape the underground bunker, and find the last of the human population.
