The Life and Time of Ethel: Malice and Harmony

When Ethel passed away, she left a large mysterious mirror in her will to her only grandson. When he finds out that it's actually agateway to another world, his life is turned upside down. The world of Taerin isn't the magical fairytale kingdom he would have expected... Instead, it's in flames, covered in horror and disaster. He is taken in by the friendly Relicent, a woman who once knew Ethel. She tells him many things about his gran, and he realises... he didn't know her at all! She had a doublelife, except this one has more secrets, lies and death than he could imagine. She was the most powerful sorceress in the land and was the reason for absolute peace in the world. Until something went wrong...

And now, a dark creature called Mhurzuk has started it's advance of Taerin. Through shadow, fire and a powerfully augmented sword called Malice, Mhurzuk is desperate to destroy all light in Taerin, until only shadow remains. However, word has reached Mhurzuk of a boy related to Ethel the Sorceress... which means the boy knows where the gateway is...

The boy discovers his gran may yet be alive in this world, but being imprisoned by shadow. With the help of Relicent, an elite force called The Arkane and the good people of Taerin, a plan is set in motion to rescue Ethel, reclaim the light from the shadow, and detroy Mhurzuk.

However, Mhurzuk has his own agenda...
