Cara lives in a world where she is deemed lesser because she isn't an Aurelian. Aurelians dominate the kingdom of Serola - and the world. Cara's questionable and uncertain past causes her to harbor a deep resentment for them, and she is determined never to fall into their grasp. However, she finds herself in the lion's den when a tragedy causes her to reveal secrets she herself didn't know she kept. 

Cara ends up in a place that forces her to relive some of her most traumatizing memories. With each passing day, she is given more than one reason to sleep with one eye open.
