I never actually feared death, nor did I fear dying. I think I had a pretty healthy awareness of it. I was more afraid of what came after it. I know, pretty morbid thoughts for a seventeen year old to have, but when your life is all around "perfect" what can you expect? Not everything goes right... ~~SD~~ Shailene O'Laughlin faced a life altering tragedy, one that cost her her life and her identity. She's transported to The Barracks and forced to be made part of a war and a world that she doesn't understand. To make matters worse, it's a world that she has no place in. Something about her soul is different, and nobody knows why.  No one wants to find out why more than her, but will love, mischief, and a power struggle get in her way?

Nicole Rivers was raised in a world where emotions were weaknesses to be cut out. Trained from her teenage years by a secret syndicate known as The Veil, she became one of their most efficient assassins - silent, ruthless, and invisible. She never questioned an order, never hesitated. Her reputation was built on precision and detachment. But even perfect killers crave something human - something real. She just never thought it would come in the form of a spy sent to stop her. Ava Carter lived in the realm of deception. A top agent for the Intelligence Bureau, she was trained to manipulate, seduce, and extract secrets without leaving a trace. Her missions were clean, her emotions calculated - until Nicole appeared on her radar. Their first encounter was chaos: bullets, smoke, and a single shared look that neither could shake. What began as a mission turned into a collision - two women on opposite sides, bound by orders but drawn by something neither could explain. Nicole was supposed to kill Ava. Ava was supposed to capture Nicole. Instead, they found themselves working together when both agencies turned against them after a botched operation that revealed truths neither was meant to uncover. Now fugitives, they move through cities under false names - partners in survival, but more than that in the spaces between. There's a tension in every glance, a heartbeat in every argument, a spark every time their hands brush while cleaning their weapons or patching each other's wounds. Nicole tells herself she can't afford to care. Ava swears she won't fall for someone who kills for a living. But in a world built on lies, the only thing that feels real is each other - and that's what makes it dangerous. Because love, for people like them, isn't salvation. It's a weakness that could get them both killed.
