It was supposed to be a fun afternoon, riding rides and eating overpriced food at the carnival. But unfortunately life had other plans for Esmeralda.

Once she arrived home she was put to work, as she cleaned the room she found a ring and foolishly put it on. One scare later and she finds out that the ring has given her powers.

She thought she wouldn't be able to cope with what life had given her, but then her siblings found out and she realized that she would be able to do anything she set her mind to.

... Even if it was just trying to survive senior year.

*****

"I can't believe this," Sierra said as she began pacing, "you're her, you the one can barely talk to the teacher and is scared of strangers." She sat down putting her phone away.

I smiled a guilty smile as I felt unsure on what to do pulling my hood off and a mask I had found in my room the other day.

I hadn't given Sierea too much credit where it was due and had no idea just how quick she would put the pieces together.

"You caught on quick," I finally said, "how?"

She smiled and said "only you would think I wouldn't remember your outfits, and you missed like a lot events where 'she' happened to show up."

"You don't seem that freaked out, " I noted at how calm she looked.

"You're kidding right? I just found out my best friend is a super hero I'm like dying over here," She fanned her face, "but sadly I'm also running on like two hours of sleep so. "

I walked up to her worries she'd faint, with a smile she fell unconscious, I barely managed to catch before she hit the pavement.

Have you ever had one of those terrible yet annoyingly pivotal moments? You know, that monumental fragment of time that flips everything you have ever known. That plot twist second that completely takes you by surprise. The one just before the storm hits and everything goes to hell. Yes? Because you see, that moment happens to be my whole damn life. It wasn't always like this though. I used to have a pretty mundane existence, happy to just get good grades and be around my friends. God I wish I could get that simplicity back, I'd never complain it was boring again. But I know I'm not going to ever get back my old life because well... I died. (Kinda) But I woke up. And I was thrilled, beyond grateful I wasn't dead. But then I realized that there was one minor detail that had changed about my reality. I was given the chance to live but it turns out I woke up as the villainess in an otome game my friend used to be obsessed with - Kingdom of freaking Hearts (I added the freaking in there for effect, it's just Kingdom of Hearts) Where, for the record, the villainess only has two possible endings 1) execution and 2) getting exiled. So Fate was like, "Don't worry, I'll save you. Here's a chance to live" and then was like "psyche, screw you. You're still going to die but I'll let you suffer a little first." So now, if only to annoy Fate by proving it wrong, I am determined to survive. I can and I will if I play by these simple rules: 1) Befriend Heroin 2) Avoid Aryn Edwards at All Costs as well as other capture targets And 3) Be the top student at the academy and become an invaluable asset to my Kingdom so I become indispensable, thus unkillable. I'm determined, stubborn, persistent and I will live passed 16. Fate made a big mistake setting me up to die. Since it threw this plot twist at me, I figure I'll return the favor. I'll be the biggest plot twist Fate never saw coming...

Prologue I used to have a nightmare when I was younger. It was always the same order and the same impact. It started with the warmth of sand consuming my feet. I looked up to see a warzone. There were flashes of fire, water, and lightning. It was like a war of the gods. Suddenly I felt the heat on my back. I turned to see neon red and yellow flames consume me. I ran to hide in the bushes that were next to me, feeling out of breath I tried to calm myself down. Strands of dark red hair covered my face. I proceeded to swipe my hair and look at my surroundings. I heard sobbing coming from near me. I trudged through the bushes and toward the sobbing when I got to under a willow tree. "Hey, are you okay?" I asked. I saw a girl with long dark red hair being the cause of the sobbing. She had a huge gash on her forehead with blood trailing down her face. She also had burns on her arms and shirt. The boy was in much worse condition. He was covered in burns, she was covering his face with only his hair showing. They both had the same colored hair. Suddenly my necklace started to glow with an amber color. The girl in front of me had a similar amber glow. Two amber crowns sat on top of the pillow. One female and one male crown sat on top of the pillow. Once I walked closer the glow came back. Once I grabbed the tiara everything became white. I was once again in another room, I attempted to move but I mysteriously couldn't. A neon purple bolt of lightning hit my chest. We both locked eyes with each other. Was that me? Before I could find out, the ground started to be drained into a whole. I was sucked into the drain and everything soon became black and I was free-falling. My back soon hit the ground of the room. I rose to look at the surroundings of the new room I was in. I fell to my knees from the pain. Then a person walked forward and grabbed my face.

"Sarah, do you know where I'm supposed to go next?" "Go next? You're leaving me?" "Yes, but I'm somewhat of a superhero, I'm saving lives right now. Don't ask how. It's too complicated." "Cool! In my dream, after I saw the rainbow, I saw strange monsters under my bed. Are you here to fight away the monsters?" I sighed. What a cool metaphor she used for a seven year old who didn't know. "Yes. So I just need to crawl under your bed?" "I think so. But, before you go, I want you to have this." She ripped her painting off of her easel and handed me a rainbow. "To remember me." I lightly touched the rainbow. It had dried really fast. Was she using fast dry paint or something? It seemed like it. I folded the paper and put it in my back pocket. I thought of something to give her back in return. For the rainbow, and for showing me where to go. "Now, I know it's not much, but I want you to have this ribbon bracelet that I made myself. It matches the ribbon in your hair." How convenient. I had made this bracelet when I was bored in bed a couple of nights ago with Amber's extra fashion supplies. I took it off my wrist. Next to it was The Treasure Was You bracelet Fabian had gave me for Christmas. I missed him. I wondered what he was doing right now. Her little eyes seemed to glow. "It's so pretty and it matches perfectly! I love love love it! Thanks, um, what's your name?" "Nina, Nina Martin." Another rule broken. I got on the ground, ready to slip under her bed. "But, you won't remember me or my name, and I won't remember you or your name when we meet." "Why not?" "Because-" I said, my waist down under her bed now, "-I am the only one who is Real here." All rights go to Nickeloden for the characters they made. I, however, have new characters in this story, that I made up myself. ©
