Luke doesn't understand what was going on. People are disappearing left and right from Fort Redwater. His sister Taylor tells him not to worry, but he's paranoid about if it'll happen to him. Everyone in town says that the people who disappeared rebelled against the town's rules and a mysterious force took them away for disobeying, but Luke knows better. All the townsfolk say Fort Redwater is the only town for miles, but something about that story sounds fishy. Luke is intent on finding out the truth.

Rowan was afraid. Afraid of her father and his rules. Afraid of the outside. Afraid of what fear could do to her. Her father keeps to cooped up in Shai Yang Temple for "her safety". Rowan swears he has more things in mind that her safety, but she's afraid to rebel against him. She is forced to create crazy contraptions for her crazy father in a lab. One fateful day, Rowan runs away into the unknown, looking for freedom and adventure.

Mason wasn't sure where he was. All he remembered was lots of fire and the screams of the citizens of Evermore. The smoke choking him and stinging his eyes. Then he had blacked out. Now he's living in church ruins, talking to a mysterious voice at night. It whispers of power, knowledge and his memory. Mason isn't completely sure if he should believe the voice, but he's getting desperate. He needs to find out what happened in his past.
