Safe As Tomb tells two stories: the story of Before and the story of After.
Before, as in before Isaac Brendon Reynolds began to accept his sexuality in his ultra-conservative town, before he fell in love, before he made a life altering mistake, before he got expelled and sent to a Christian reform school.
And After, as in after Isaac meets people struggling with all the same things as him, after Isaac gets the help he really needs, and after he decides to expose the horrors of conversion therapy.
