Nathan remembers the little girl that shielded him. The one that shielded him from his fathers belt, his fathers hand, and his fathers words. He remembers the little girl who told him he was smart, that he was kind, that he was worth it.
Anique (pronounced aaa-need) remembers the little boy who didn't care. The one that didn't care that her hair was frizzy, that her skin was brown, or that her parent's skin tones didn't match. She remembers the little boy who shielded her from the piercing eyes and the jeering voices.
After 6 years apart, the two reunite at the highly esteemed Winchester University, where Nathan immediately recognizes his first and only love.
