Julia grows up in a family that has to suffer through the difficulties of poverty. Growing up she realizes that her family has no money. Because of this she strives to be hardworking and go to the best university and as well as get a high paying job to provide for herself and her family so they will never have to suffer from poverty again. 

She succeeds at doing this and in present POV she is a successful Doctor who is one of the best in America. However since she has always focused on her career in the past, she is incapable of having a social life and she hasn't explored any other part of her life other than her work. 

Emilio, a man who is haunted by his past, meets her and helps her re-discover herself and the world in a new way she never thought imaginable.
