It is five hundred years since the Earth nearly died in a hailstorm of nuclear bombs and resultant plagues. No one knows why the ancients tried to destroy the world. Their vast cities are still there, crumbling monuments to their colossal stupidity. Forbidden places now, where only the criminally insane Druids, and tribes of fiercely territorial cannibals roam their ruined streets.
Outside the cities in scattered clearings, villagers struggle to survive, hoping that the bands of outlaws who strike with impunity from the huge forests covering most of England would somehow avoid their vulnerable community.
It is a violent world the ‘Ghost Killer’ knows well. He has vowed to kill all those responsible for his wife’s death, and he was doing well until he met Ruth. A strange and beautiful girl with powerful mystical powers who offers him hope and the prospect of peace. Words that had almost been lost to his vocabulary after fifteen years of unremitting violence and bloodshed.
Unfortunately for him, to find this Promised Land she speaks of, he is going to have to cut a swathe of blood through the land with his axe, and in doing so threaten the very thing he discovers he now wants more than anything else. An end to the bloodshed.

„The sunset is beautiful, isn't it?", she asked, the sound of her voice strained, as if she hadn't been talking for a long time. The boy sat next to her, staring forward into the leaving sun. He didn't even look at the young woman when she spoke. Yet still he could feel himself, only a small part of himself, longing to hear more of her voice. It used to calm him down, singing soft lullabies whenever nightmares haunted him, or telling stories to him and his brother. It was the only comfort he could rely on. And he ended it before it could poison him. Silence filled the vast empty space. Only a single Rowan tree swayed in the non existent wind, its branches reaching down where the two figures sat, sheltering them from any harm that may come their way. It was time to leave this place again. He couldn't stay here for long. He hugged his knees tight, unconsciously swaying back and forth as he did so. Maybe, if he hugged himself hard enough, he could stay here and listen to one of her stories again? Just one short story. His efforts were in vain. He realized that when his hands and feet started to disappear, just like they have done thousands of times before. There was no way things could continue the way they were now. He knew he had to stop, but a selfish part of him was still holding onto that hope that everything would be okay once he opened his eyes. „Auntie,", he said, preparing his next words. „I... really prefer sunrises." 0101011101101111011100100110110001100100011100000110110001100101011000010111001101100101011100110110000101110110011001010110110101100101

{COMPLETED} "now that you've had your fun electrocuting me, would you care to hop in the backseat?" ---------------------------------------------------------- Freak DNA. That's what I like to call it. The fault to my genetic code. More often than not, it's a curse. The static running through my blood gave me a name. A cruel, daunting label of a measly bug. A roach. That's what I am to them, to the government. Roach; the nameless monster with electricity for a sense and lightening as a second nature. It ruined my life, the sparking currents playing tag in my mind, running around and bumping into everything, shaking me loose. The government, actually. They ruined my life. My curse just gave them a reason. You see, the normal population with ordinary DNA, they don't know about the people like me. The roaches of the world. We don't get that kind of recognition at the camps. There, we are only one thing in the military's eyes. We are weapons and we will act like it. Everyone else out there, bathing in the goodness they don't know they've got, they don't know about the roaches their stepping on. As long as their getting closer to the sky, they don't care what they stand on to reach it. They don't know about the sparkling dreamer that's killed 7 people before her 17th birthday. They don't about the ghost of a girl peaking around corners for her entire life because even home wasn't safe. They don't know about the fighter of steel and iron sucking on his bloody lip courtesy of the wars he battles in as nothing but a shadow. They don't know about the masked villain who would do anything to see the army they lead claim the throne They don't know about us. But they will, because we will rise. And when we arrive, we will arrive violently. ___________________________________________ Started: 10.06.15 Finished: 3.17.16
