Zhao Lian is a sheriff without a county. A member of an old magical order called the Shuli Go, she was raised to uphold the law and protect her fellow citizens. But after her order was disassembled, she was left with no choice but to wander in search of work for someone with her very particular set of skills.

A travelling Shuli Go takes work wherever she can, and Zhao Lian has taken her fair share of terrible jobs. Finding the missing daughter of an aristocrat is one of the more tolerable, and lucrative, jobs she can imagine. But as it becomes clear this is no simple case of kidnapping or a runaway noblewoman, Lian will be faced with the prospect of doing the one job she hates most: destroying a family.

The story follows the lives of everyone before and after the potential host refused the offer from the most powerful person living in this world.

This new addition to her life pushes her out of her comfort zone and into a run from the law, but his impact on her life is only just beginning. The second story in the saga of the Central Empire's most famous Shuli Go, this continues to build the world and set of characters which will be central to future installments. Probably my favorite one I've written thus far!

The title refers to Zhao Yunlan who survived a crash that was meant to kill him when he was eight, and also to Shen Wei who continues to live on. In this book Wei has recovered from the death of his last partner who still comes to talk to him sometimes in spirit to guide him. But Wei now works for the police as a profiler which has stopped him from being a medium, he doesn't have the same time and is usually exhausted after work. He can still see and talk to spirits but chooses not to. Several magazine stories appear about Black Robe with too many details, including all about Chu's strings and Daqing being a cat, but the author uses a pen name making it difficult for anyone to find out who he is. Eventually he is found, and shocks everyone when they learn that it is Zhao Yunlan. He wrote the stories when he was eight years old. This is a love story with some mystery and as always an adventure. Enjoy. x Book 13.

From then on, he learns about his destiny but he has kept his health problems a secret which could change everything. Zhao Yunlan doesn't believe in anything that he can't see or touch and it drives a wedge between him and the one he cares for while he learns about Wei's illness.

Maybe this time they will destroy it completely. I hope you enjoy the book as much as I did writing it.

More secrets are revealed but there is an important change coming into their lives which will affect them all in one way or another.
