Araktine's War has been over for years, but the shapeshifting beings of Lunipuland clearly remember it's horrors. And some are still affected by it. Injuries have healed, but little else. Tensions between light-and dark-aligned are higher than the moons. The legendary sky dragons have only recently escaped their imprisonment.
Alvara still hasn't found her sister or her mother after their escape. Her father never explained what she had a feeling he knew, and her only friend was being drawn further and further into madness by the loss of her brother before disappearing. Being afflicted with a dark curse that promises danger to her kind is the last straw before she leaves to do whatever she can to find her family.
But the world is a dangerous place when you're being stalked by a dark overlord who everyone believes is dead. The Phantom is the name bestowed on the murderer of countless Lunipians. And Araktine is clever enough to keep everyone believing it.
Soon after Alvara finds temporary shelter form Araktine, a strange group is assembled: a mysterious tiger, a loveable saber-tooth cat, an understandably jumpy raven, and a fox with as many secrets as Alvara herself. And they have to trust each other to find the truth about Araktine and the war, and defeat him before it's too late.
