It was the heavy breathing. Water dripping onto her forehead from up above her. The rattling chains each time she tried to heave herself away. She couldn't see anything. The smell was too distinct to tell what it smelled like. Hammering rain above her. She knows the sound too well. It was pouring outside again. She was too uptight now. Waiting for something to pop out any second by now.
She picked up the smell of rain. Dirty water dropping onto her nose. She wished she had chosen a warmer shirt than a t-shirt. She was shivering and hugging her arms close to her. She can only remember the sound of his voice and the sting in her arm. Her arm had gotten sore from it. She rubbed it to calm her.

The rooftop scene played in slow motion in her eyes. Her boyfriend's hands wrapped around her best friend, their lips locked, their laughter echoing in the crisp morning air. Her heart didn't just break it turned to dust. The voices in her head chuckled darkly, whispering like shadows: "If you had chosen him... you wouldn't be in pain. He would never betray you. He has been watching, waiting... a red flag to the world, but to you... a green light." She staggered back, her breath trembling. "Who... who are you?" she whispered, pressing her hands to her ears. "We are your choices. Your paths. And the gangster who scares everyone? He would rather die than see you cry." The voices faded, but their words rooted in her chest. The next day in class, she could barely focus. Everyone knew her as the quiet girl who never caused trouble, but now her world tilted sideways. When she glanced at the back corner, she caught him staring Raven, the school's infamous gangster. He leaned against his chair lazily, tattoos peeking from under his sleeve, but his eyes those sharp, storm colored eyes softened the moment they met hers. She quickly looked away, cheeks burning. At lunch, she found her seat empty. Her supposed best friend didn't sit beside her anymore. Her ex avoided her completely, as if she was the one at fault. She tried to eat, but her throat closed up. Then a tray slammed down across from her. "You're not eating," Raven muttered, sitting down uninvited. Her eyes widened. "Why are you-" "Because you look like hell," he cut in. She was all alone now... Any previous traces of the outside world were temporarily pushed away as she entered her secret heaven, separate from everything and everyone else. No matter how many things had gone wrong, how many times she had failed to do something, how many people had turned against her; the girl always had the option of crawling back to this secluded spot that none but her self knew of. Every time, she would crawl back here and wish upon the stars. And every night, she would wish for the same thing, over and over again. She’d wish for happiness.
