What would you do if tragedy struck the most important people in the world to you? You would probably try to console them, well easier said than done sometimes. Lena grew up in foster care. Her best friend, Kate Burke, Kate's siblings; Xavier and Janie, and Kate's parents have been in her life since Lena and Kate became best friends in the first grade. In our cruel world, growing up without your family can be tough, but it will also make you tough. The Burkes took Lena in and gave her the closest thing she will ever have to a family while being a foster kid, but when Mrs. Burke goes missing, Lena may be their best chance at picking up the pieces. Lena suddenly must learn to console her best friend, manage Xavier as he tries to cope, and raise 4 year old Janie who is trying to understand why all this would happen, and how she can get through it. All the while she is still trying to endure possibly loosing the closest thing she had to a mother herself. Lena is a strong person, but this task might be too heavy for even the toughest 16 year old girl, and will they ever be reconciled with their beloved mother?
