Dean and Castiel know each other and have been paired up in a couple of classes. Dean likes the kid as a good friend. Castiel has gone to Dean's games, mainly admiring him. He won't admit his crush for the guy until they're at a party drunk, playing truth or dare with spinning a bottle.
